My neighbor posted the below on Facebook today. She is going to be running and raising $ for a cause that is close to her and her daughters heart. I see a lot of posts like this, but today- despite money being tight, I decided to help her reach her goal and made a donation.
The
Nayeli Faith Foundation was created by the parents of a child who
survived a birth defect known as Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH).
CDH is a life threatening birth defect which occurs 1 in 2500 live
births, with a 50% survival rate. CDH occurs when (in utero) the
child’s diaphragm does not close properly. This allows the child’s
stomach contents to travel into their chest, which stunts the growth of
the child’s lungs and displaces the child’s heart.
The Nayeli
Faith Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation. The Foundation
assists families facing a CDH diagnosis, families who have a CDH child
in the hospital, families who have brought a CDH child home and require
further assistance, and families who have lost a child to CDH. They
also focus on public awareness and CDH Research at University of San
Francisco, a front runner in research of this birth defect.
Madison and I met little Nayeli during one of our Kindermusik classes
back in 2011 and over the last couple of years have watched her grow
and thrive. She is a survivor and is now joined by healthy twin
brothers. The family continues to support their foundation mainly with
this SF marathon which I have been running in for the past 2 years, this
will be my 3rd year raising money and running with them.
On
June 16, 2013, I am running “The San Francisco Half Marathon” with a
team committed to raising funds for the Nayeli Faith Foundation. The
funds raised will be given to the UCSF CDH Research Program, and to
families who need assistance from the Foundation.
I have a
fundraising goal of $513 dollars. All donations are tax deductible
under the Nayeli Faith Foundation’s Federal tax identification number,
which is 80-0417228. You can mail your donation to (please notify me
directly with amount and date sent so I can keep track):
