While Rick was golfing with Tim in Atlanta I thought I would
surprise Rick by replacing the rotting flower boxes on our shed and filling
them with flowers from Home Depot. Not as easy as I thought due to the
odd size! I ended up asking our friend Mark to help me build two boxes
using PVC. Before heading out to Home Depot for the supplies I was
reading our town paper. I saw that the couple who own the local garden
center were losing their house to auction.
Once the boxes were built I brought them directly to the garden center and asked for help in picking out flowers for them. I also bought seedlings for my Topsy Turvey tomato and hot pepper hanging garden. The plantings were twice as expensive as Home Depot and cost more than the flower box supplies, but I plan on patronizing them as much as possible in hopes they don't lose their business also.
Rick loved the flower boxes, especially the no maintenance, no rotting part! Mark loved the cranberry stuffing, walnut chicken salad sandwiches I made as payment for his labor of friendship!
