Act #47- Meeting Needs (Nicole)

I am frugal, partially as a means to an end, and partially because I believe my mother was frugal and passed this down to me.  I am also active on the internet, which has opened my world to resources that the generations before me did not have.  I am actively part of many sites/groups that post things for sale or for free.  At first I only responded to things my family needed, but over the last year or so, I have found myself in a unique position.  I am a middleman (Woman).  I have a friend who is looking for something they need and the next thing you know, someone is posting that exact thing on one of my sites.  Or sometimes, I have a friend trying to get rid of something and I ask around and find a home for that item.  It took me a while to realize what I was even doing, and it took me even longer to realize that God is definitely in control of all of this and is using me to meet the needs of his people.

When we first started this project, I wasn’t going to even write about this because it wasn’t something that was “New” or “Out of my comfort zone” and I felt that the Acts of Kindness should be things that are not part of my day to day.  But I was talking to my sister-in-law and she reminded me that this is exactly the kind of thing for this project.  The kindness has been passed along through the generations.  I have witnessed this generosity in you, Nana, and also my parents and the rest of my family- and because of that I have become the kind of person who is always looking for a need to be met.  This is truly “Your life passed down”.

In the last few months here are some of the needs I have met:

  • ·         A friend of mine was giving away a large bag of baby girl clothes, and my sister in law really needed some in the next sizes so I picked it up and brought it to Santa Cruz on Easter.
  • ·         A friend of mine is giving away her son’s crib and toddler bed. So far I have placed the crib in a friend’s home who is a foster parent and her foster daughter has outgrown the mini crib they currently have.
  • ·         On one of my boards someone was giving away a bunch of children’s clothing.  The friend mentioned above that is a foster parent who collects clothes for other foster parents.  She has a “closet” so when they get new foster children they can shop for free.  Often the children need new clothes quickly as they are eating better, etc.
  • ·         My mom & I collected stuffed animals and beanie babies for Chelsie’s classroom and her church nursery.
  • ·         I collected Paper Towel and Toilet Paper rolls for the Vacation Bible School at church.
