Living away from family is difficult at times. I
can’t be there to drive our moms to the airport or appointments. I can’t take
them to lunch or stop by to help them around the house. I can’t go to the
Christmas tree shop with them. When my friend Casey remarried and moved away,
we promised to look after her mom, Ann. Now understand that Ann doesn’t need
much looking after, she is as active as Shirley and accepts help about as much
too.
Ann had cataract surgery on one eye and turned
down my offers to help. When she had the procedure repeated on other eye. I
again asked if I could drive her to the doctors or take her anywhere and she
said Yes! Unfortunately, the appointment time conflicted with getting Mikaila
to school on time. David stepped up and offered to go into work late that day
to drive Mikaila to school so I could in turn, get Ann to the doctors on time.
I made her a yummy lunch with a sandwich, quinoa salad, and treats and special
drinks. I loved spending time with her in the waiting room and it made me feel
good to be with her. Ann isn’t my mom, but just as Casey appreciated me being
there in her absence, I appreciate others helping with our moms.
